Green Craze or Phase?
Everywhere you look, it’s green. No, not the color, but the environmentally-friendly kind. Everyone wants a piece. It seems like everything is going green, from cars to liquor to Disney rides and hangers (yes, hangers)!
I just learned about this new product called EcoHangersâ„¢. The company’s slogan is “Going Green is in Fashion.” Indeed it’s true. When something is hot, it sells. That’s why celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon, using words like sustainability, corporate environmentalism, organic and fuel-efficient. Perhaps a few really do care about mother Earth, but I bet most are seeing only one kind of green, and that’s the dollars fluffing their bank accounts when they plug green products.
Back to EcoHangers™. The company claims that more than 3.5 billion wire hangers are dumped in landfills every year and take years to decompose. The company says its hangers are made from 100% recycled paper. EcoHangers™ is calling for retailers and dry cleaners to make the switch.I admit, I have never given any thought to wire hangers except when I think about how annoying they are and when they have ruined my clothes.
Let me just also say that I am all for sustainability. I mean, I want to live a long and healthy life here on Earth, and I want my kids’ kids to enjoy what mother nature has so generously given us. I even bought a book with tips on how I can save the planet one simple step at a time. And, guess what? I must be a sucker because in the green book, a New York Times bestseller, celebrities share their own tips! At least I can say the book is printed on 100% recycled paper. Though my colleague, Jim, says if the authors were truly green they wouldn’t have printed on paper at all.
Anyway, I better get going. I have to clean out my closet and get rid of those hangers I get from the dry cleaner. My mother always said, “NO WIRE HANGERS!”
